Career coaching: helping people who
are stuck or have a problem with their career
Especially if you are in the
recession doldrums
The Doldrums is an area of the sea where there is almost no
wind and in the past sailors could get stuck there for ages. Is
that happening with your job or career at the moment?
Do you have one or more of these going on?
- Your job is on the line
- You don’t like your current job
- You see no future in what you are
doing
- You are unemployed and struggling to find another
job
- You are now having one change too many
- Morale at work is terrible and you want to get out
- You don’t feel valued for what you do
or what you are about
- You’ve been seeking the ideal job and
not found it yet
- It is time for a complete re-think
about the future
- You want to change your work and lifestyle
- It is time for you now
It might be a mixture of reasons but in general you need
some help to get your work and career moving.
What you have now isn’t working out, or it is simply that
you aren’t working. In the current
climate, you might even be out of work and there are seemingly
no jobs out there.
What is to be done?
You might have tried all the usual methods to get a job you
want but either you are finding you have hit a dead end or just
do not know the best way forward. You might
have run out of options. You might even not really know what
you want. This can be all very frustrating and often
depressing.
Very often there is a way forward, only you
can’t see it or don't believe it. It might be you actually lack
awareness of what you could be doing. You may be unaware of a
skill, aptitude or experience that you are not fully utilising.
You may have untapped talent. Or you are not using the best
routes to open up a better direction. Your marketing might need
sharpening. You might need new ideas.
And you need an expert who can point it out or help you see
it.
Maybe there is a new you just waiting
to be discovered and brought out into the open!
I think we are all unique in our own ways and that
there’s something special in all of us that
needs drawing out and realising, to be brought into physical
reality
Where I come in
I am a very experienced career coach who
first started doing this work in the last recession. Where I
come in as a career coach is in helping people build their
self-awareness of their attributes and
preferences, identify desirable alternative career routes
and explore options. I also help you develop research
skills, create a better profile, become more
effective at presenting yourself and a myriad of
other techniques to enhance possibilities and create
new ways forward.
I have provided career coaching for people in
a whole variety of career development and career
change situations for over 18 years. I
have worked with the long-term unemployed, supported
people in the midst of organisational change, led in-house
career development programmes, helped directors get another
job, run change management workshops for unhappy staff in
a business shut-down, and supported individuals needing
help to change direction or simply get a new role.
In all this, my aim is to find what lights each
person up, what new vision they could create for
themselves and to plan and carry out innovative ways of getting
there.
